Again..both of the parties have some serious 'xplaining to do!

Before the end of this year .. just weeks from now .. our debt ceiling will exceed $12.1 trillion. To put that in perspective: the government's total debt has almost doubled in the past seven years. Read that again, folks. If you had told me seven years ago that our government's debt would double by 2010, I would have said "Who put the Democrats in charge?" The point here is that this has been a joint effort. George Bush was a huge spender. He just couldn't bring himself to veto a budget bill, and he also gave us the Medicare prescription drug program.
I'm just acknowledging the role of Bush and the Republicans in this before you have to remind me. The point, though, is that Obama and the Democrats are making Bush look like he was spending from petty cash. These people are running up a debt that our children and grandchildren simply will not be able to pay. The lives that your children and grandchildren will live in this country are being unalterably change by the manic spending and debt spree going on right now in Washington.
The latest? Yesterday the Senate passed an omnibus spending bill. It is 1,088 pages, totaling $445 billion. That means that every page of this omnibus spending bill cost you, the taxpayers, about $409 million. When all is said and done, federal agencies will have received nearly a 70% increase in funding in the last two years.
Now .. how about these earmarks? If you will remember correctly, one of Nancy Pelosi's main pitches when she became Speaker of the House was to end the explosion of earmarks. Well if that was her goal, she has failed miserably. You surely don't believe that this was ever her goal, do you? There are over 5,000 earmarks in this omnibus bill alone, which brings the total number of earmarks for the year to about 10,000. If you want to think about it this way ... that is about 23 earmarks for every Congressional district in the country. These earmarks include important projects like this: $100 million to continue work on the now defunct VH-71 presidential helicopter. At this rate, Congress will spend $11 billion just on disclosed earmarks for the 2010 fiscal year.
And why is this money being spent? One reason .. one reason only. Votes. The votes of the moochers are being bought and paid for with new government entitlement programs, and the hometown votes are being bought and paid for with sidewalks, band uniforms, spending on cancelled Pentagon projects and Lord knows what else.
