Other inspirational people have died before and I made due note of their loss but none has left me quite as disorientated as the news of McQueen's departure today.
A lot has been said about his loss already and I'm quite sure a lot more will be yet, but I still have to honor a man who has left a void no other designer can possibly aspire to fill.
I never hid the fact that I was a big fan of his work (see here and here) and the anticipation of each of his new collections made me giddy and enthusiastic as schoolgirl with a new crush.
What I loved about his work was that it was always about so much more than just the clothes, he managed to merge so many influences and styles with so much flair and drama. For me, he was alway THE designer, the one that just seemed to tap into that something special and produce otherworldly results that made me drool and go wide eyed with astonishment.
More than a fashion designer, an artist or a visionary, he was a dreamaker whose work will be sorely missed, and who has left a big hole in my inspiration box.

He even directed a video for Bjork, so yeah, he was the personification of wicked and awesome in my book...
